Well, whether a strike has been called yet or not — even if (completely inconsistent with what I'm hearing about actual "progress") there's even a tentative agreement in place — it's time for some ancient history today.

Ancient, that is, in internet time. That these are displaying both on and from a unit of one of the streaming providers that refuses to Pay the Writer is a painful irony.

AMPTP's attitude, and the disruptions to both scripts and productions caused by it, were directly responsible for the oft-and-justly-criticized dumbing down and hastiness of scripts for 2009–10 television and 2010–11 films. Yes, directors and cinematographers and actors and other contributors can sometimes polish a turd; they're much better off polishing a gemstone, however uncut or rough or impure.
