An Unpleasant Jackie Fisher Moment

…from a Cold Warrior who (hopefully, mostly) outgrew it long before the end.

Here's hoping my contemporaries, and those who came just after me, aren't busy reverting to type. I don't have a lot of optimism on that score, because the biggest problem with the Cold War mindset was monomania, not unjustified distrust of totalitarians whose dorogi v Moskvu were a daily commute. The distrust was — and is — justified; it just wasn't a complete explanation, and as sad experience since 1978 has demonstrated probably not even the dominant one. And that last should frighten you more than the concept of SovietRussian troops occupying Chernobyl, then celebrating with their vodka rations.

It's gonna get worse. A lot worse. And you don't really think other miscreants are going to refrain from taking advantage of others' tunnel vision, do you?
