Remember that the Grinch was a great guy before that (probably fatal off-camera) hypercardia event, as he thoroughly deplored the commercialism and modern spirit of the season ("gimme").
- Little Marco wrote a memo, and made darned sure it was in a typeface notorious for its mistreatment of diacriticals and non-Roman characters, and that's virtually illegible onscreen in "dark mode." This will facilitate subtle snubbing of allies whose major cities include München, Göteborg, and São Paulo; tenser conversations regarding Донбас and Łódź; and anything from East Asia is right out. Frankly, that's more consideration than this Administration is giving the substance… and the emphasis on the appearance of the font is all too predictable. I'd suggest that waking up to others' perceptions in their own languages might matter to effective diplomacy, but that's obviously too close to "woke."
- And it gets even worse when State negotiates an extradition treaty and then ICE detains the foreign citizen whose presence in the US was involuntary, to face criminal charges. This isn't the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing — it's the left hand giving the right hand the finger.
- Speaking of criminals who need to face charges, consider the superrich — and ponder the distressing proportion whose fortunes were founded through lawbreaking. And maybe consider writing a novel based on their (fictional) kids, because that's not copyright-protected subject matter…
- I suppose that beats being
woundedinjured in action but not eligible for a Purple Heart. No visible scar, no medal… and good luck with that VA claim.
