Collateral Damage

But see Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court Art. 8(2)(b)(iv). It's one thing to argue that mere negligence is not enough to satisfy the "[i]ntentionally launching" element — but what about sociopathic narcissism rising to insanity?

Each of the link sausages on this platter has the <SARCASM> tag on it. Even those that are deadly serious.

  • One bit of collateral "damage" that has resulted from the MuscoviteRussian attack on Ukraine — one easy to anticipate for those of us who've lived on the darker side of the 'net since it was called DARPAnet and had a purpose other than distributing porn (playing 8x8 Star Trek took priority) — has been changes in the locus of Certain Disreputable Activities. My spam folder now has many offers of "companionship" from Beuatiful Ukrainian Women and not Beuatiful Russian Girls; four major non-onionized "Russian" pirate sites now claim to be "Ukrainian" (although three of those four are still actually in the US, just using relays); even "male enhancement" and "miracle diet" offers have .ua and not .ru loci buried in the messages. I'm thoroughly convinced…
  • At least the maroons in major-league baseball are respecting the need for sunflower seeds to be reserved for future Russian gardens near Kyiv. Since the millionaires and billionaires are arguing over their respective excessive compensation, there's no spring training and opening day has been delayed, meaning reduced spitting of sunflower seeds now that chewing tobacco is discouraged.

Needless to say, I'm hoping for a continued lockout/work stoppage — like the whole bloody season. Or more. And the contrast with the almost-unique-to-the-US obsession with "only employees may collectively bargain or organize" will continue to await further examination in the bullpen. A minor league bullpen.

  • I'm thoroughly in favor of shunning oligarchs, of refusing to deal with them, of making them divest their ill-gotten gains. Their vanity possessions like football teams; like yachts. But mere nationality should not be the only consideration; any oligarch-owned nonproductive/nonservice asset "worth" more than Costa Rica's entire national public-spending budget for 2021 is at minimum highly suspicious and worthy of consideration for… seizure.
