So His Dan-ness has announced that he will no longer anchor (and "manage") the CBS nightly news starting on 09 March 2005. I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand, Dan Rather was not a good choice for the nightly news in the first place. His strength was always as a reporter with the time to give complete context, not as a deliverer of soundbites (the "modern" function of the anchor). On the other hand, we very well might end up with some maroon moving over from one of the "talk radio TV" programs so properly excoriated by Jon Stewart. To make things perfectly clear, none of the current "hosts" would be appropriate.
Hmmm. Jon Stewart. Maybe he'd take the gig?
