Law and reality in publishing and entertainment (seldom the same thing) from the creator's side of the slush pile, with occasional forays into politics, military affairs, censorship and the First Amendment, legal theory, and anything else that strikes me as interesting. |

The NYTBR has finally designated its new editor: Stanley Tanenhaus, currently a contributing editor at Vanity Fair (and a former Times assistant editor). He is best known in publishing for his biography of Whittaker Chambersa highly controversial book, largely on partisan grounds. I am reserving judgment at the moment; but things can't get much worse than they have been under McGrath. Can they? (Of course they canbut it's nice rhetoric.)
